Who are you? Believe it or not, Will Did isn’t a person. It’s two people – Stu McDonald and Blair Howard, a pair of passionate creative types. We are graphic designers and illustrators primarily, with our work taking form in branding, event invitations, posters and other print-based mediums. Combining our strengths and individual interests has allowed us to branch into other areas including silk screen printing, murals and other messy DIY style projects.

What are you doing in your new space? Well, we are usually making a (well thought out) mess! We basically use the space for everything that shouldn’t be done at home on the carpet. Whether it be spray painting an exhibition piece, painting a wall for a photography backdrop, or coating, burning and washing silk screens, it happens up in The Sanitarium.

Since our projects are usually born in the home office on computers, the studio is a fantastic place for them to explode into real life things, which is what it’s all about for us.

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle? When the opportunity to get a space came up in 2010, Stu jumped at it and initially used the studio for spray painting and drawing. When we became Will Did, and the scope and direction of our design work changed, the importance of not only the space but the network the Renew Newcastle has provided grew massively. We are so lucky to have a little slice of The Sanitarium, and also a slice of the resources that are now available to us, such as help with marketing, opportunities for collaboration, and general support and positivity.
