about The Business Who’s Who of Australia
Small Mining Town presents The Business Who’s Who of Australia, an art exhibition featuring the drawings of Susan Te Kahurangi King. These colourful and accessible works have been produced over a lifetime by this self-taught artist.
Small Mining Town is a new company based in Newcastle. We assist in managing the art affairs of NZ self taught artist, Susan Te Kahurangi King. We create art events, publish comics, prints and digital content and provide engineering and voice over services. We are currently building a premises in Islington which will be a cafe, gallery and workshop.
The directors of Small Mining Town are Jamie Oorschot and Rachel King. Jamie is a mechanical design engineer who works as a consultant in manufacturing. Rachel is a voice actor working in the animation and advertising industries. She has also managed recording studios and been a producer for composers.
Also involved are Susan Te Kahurangi King and Petita Cole who are based in Auckland. Susan is the aforementioned self taught artist and Petita is an art teacher and also assists managing Susan’s art affairs.
Rachel, Petita and Susan are sisters.
Renew asked Rachel why they wanted to be involved:
We are long time admirers of the Renew project. Over the past few years we have seen a tangible transformation in the centre of Newcastle and find the prospect of this continuing and growing to be very exciting.
The opportunity to become involved in the Emporium project came up out of the blue and at a perfect time for us to jump in with the kind of exhibition and production of prints and comics that we intend to do when our own premises is up and running.
SO, WHAT IS THE BUSINESS WHO’S WHO OF AUSTRALIA?
The Business Who’s Who of Australia is an art exhibition. We will have a range of prints and publications available; from small affordable comics and prints to large giclee prints and limited edition hand made giclee books. As our time in The Emporium goes on we will be bringing in new things and announcing activities. LIKE our Facebook page to stay in the loop.
Further into the project, Susan and Petita will be coming over from New Zealand and we will be hosting some drawing workshops, artist talks* and there will be opportunity for prints to be signed by Susan.
*these will be fascinating as Susan doesn’t speak
