about SuperNovo

Who are you?
I am James Schofield, a UK born motion designer/visual effects artist. I started out as a graphic designer but after moving to Australia in 2000, my career evolved into motion designer within the Sydney post production industry. After taking a couple of years out in the UK to study cinematography, my wife and I decided to head back to Australia and create a new life in Newcastle as we had heard great things. That was 2 years ago and we have never looked back since, we love Newcastle.

What do you do?
SuperNovo is a multi-disciplinary design boutique specialising in motion design, photography/cinematography and branding for the advertising and events industry. In the past I have have created work for clients such as MTV, GE, Foxtel, Westpac, Lexus and BUPA.. oh and the King of Saudi Arabia!

Here is my 2014 Showreel, most of the work was conceptualised, designed, directed and animated by myself.

I also specialise in time-lapse photography, here is a recent project i created whilst on holiday in queenstown NZ:

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
I have had my eye on Renew Newcastle projects for the last couple of years, it’s just a fantastic incentive for local talent to fulfill their life ambitions in a friendly, creative atmosphere whilst taking away the initial business stress of large overheads etc.. It has truly transformed the city and I want to be a part of the evolution of Newcastle CBD.

What are you doing in your new space?
SuperNovo will focus on everything design and animation related such as TV commercials, award show packages, event projections and cinematography.

Tell us about the space
I am just ecstatic about my new studio space, I am on the fourth floor of Wolfe St Studios so I have quite a few stairs to face every morning but getting to the top is worth the climb! it overlooks Wolfe street and the bustling Hunter Street Mall and it has harbour views (!) plus being amongst the many other creative startups makes it an inspiring place to be and I am excited about the year and projects that lie ahead. The space was last used for residential purposes but i believe recent laws and legislations changed that.
