Who are you?
My name is Claire Stannard.
What do you do?
Newcastle-based independent label producing men’s and women’s accessories, hand printed kimonos and large geometric metal and leather wallpieces, featuring bronze castings (done the old-school way), copper, brass, feathers and leather each piece personifies handmade quality from concept to production. Playful, imaginative, authentic.
What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
Firstly, on a practical level : Renew’s unique business model that was created specifically for people practicing in the arts field. Flexible and low cost, and allows great creative freedom in a space which is predominately a ‘blank canvas’.
Secondly, and just as importantly: Being part of an arts community, as opposed to working in an isolated studio. Collaborating, word of mouth events , support and encouragement from management and peers alike is invaluable.
What are you doing in your space?
A great benefit of The Emporium is that it is half-retail/half-studio space. The public can experience first hand the creative/making process and in turn we can interact one-on-one with potential customers – instead of going through a third party.
