Jodie has moved to a commercial space on King Street, feel free to visit her in her new home – 374 King Street, Newcastle.

Who are you and what do you do?
I am Jodie Thompson and I make ladies headpieces for any occasion including weddings, race days, special events and everyday.

Each piece is made to order; designed, dyed, blocked, sewn and created with love and attention to detail in-store so visitors are able to observe the process of making a wearable piece of art.

There is a wide selection of my handmade creations on display within the original David Jones glass cabinets ready for customers to try on and discover a style that suits them and their outfit.

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
My inspiration comes from early 1900’s when hats were always worn. To paraphrase Monty Python, ‘The problem with the world today? There aren’t enough people wearing hats!.’ – C.M.Pieper

There is also the opportunity to connect with the beautiful and historical building where The Emporium is located meant I absolutely had to get involved to contribute to the return of some old-world elegance and glamour back to Hunter Street Mall.

Tell us about the space – what was its previous use?
The previous life of my space was the ladies makeup and perfume department of the former David Jones department store. I have spoken with former staff and clients of DJ’s and am thrilled to hear of the memories and history, and I am proud to extend these into a sophisticated, chic hand-crafted millinery store.
