about Floral and Spot

Who are you?
My Name is Raylee Allen, the owner of Floral and Spot Designs. I started this business when I was at home with my second son and could not find any women’s clothing that was unique and fun to wear.

What do you do?
I am the designer and the maker. I get a design in my head and then it all starts from when it hits the paper. I source 100% cotton fabrics, that’s one of the fun parts, then we make a sample garment and play around then once happy I then start the fabric matching and taadahh! it then hit the racks. I have a great support around me to help with all this happening.

Tell us about the space.
Floral and Spot will offer product that cannot be found elsewhere. For starters, there will be more gorgeous designs beyond what is available as my regular market stall. Then we will also stock a range of accessories to compliment Floral and Spot. Last but not least there will be a super exciting range of fabrics from which you will be able to choose to have your Floral and Spot design made in.

Also joining me is my good friend and partner in crime Kristine Boland and she is the owner of The Goat Soap Lady, she makes handmade goat milk soaps, hand creams and face products and will offer exclusive products only on sale at Floral and Spot. Kristine lives on a working farm that has 15 goats.

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
I have been always interested in Renew Newcastle, but the timing has not worked due to my family commitments. Now that has changed and I am able to give this 100%. It has always been a dream to have a shop and a little cafe with a funky blues band playing in the corner, allowing me make all of my designs available to Newcastle and beyond. This is a great opportunity to get a taste of running my own shop.
