about PANOZ

UPDATE DEC 2011

PANOZ is closed, with Tibo announcing his return to France. Remy will continue making websites from his home office.

PANOZ is a new company established in 2011 which is run by two French guys now living in Newcastle – Remy Merarin and Tibo Alberny. The initial idea behind PANOZ was to develop Panoramic Design and Virtual Visit.

PANOZ also offers web design, branding and photographic services for small to medium businesses.

Remy has been doing graphic design, web design and photography for over five years, but moved to Newcastle two years ago from Sydney because his partner – who grew up in Newcastle – was offered a position at the University. “I like Newcastle’s laid back attitude, the beaches and its coffee culture.”

Tibo explores all aspects of graphic design: motion graphics (visual effects for commercials), print design and now webdesign. He also takes pictures for fun. Tibo is a self described geek, designing for more than 10 years, even before studying this at university. He has been living in Australia for almost 2 years and is relocating to Newcastle from Sydney “because we got the office. I have been to Newcastle a few times before to see Remy. I dont really know Newcastle yet, but Im looking forward to discover more about it.”

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?

Renew Newcastle is a great initiative to bring life back to the city and we wanted to be part of it. It is a great opportunity for our generation to commence with new and exciting ideas and grow them into a functioning business.

What are you doing in your new space?

We turned our space into an office and a photographic studio. We might also implement a dark room to process pictures at the back at a later stage.

The space is challenging to work with because the property owner wants you to make as few alterations to the space as possible. What clever solutions have you come up with to make the place suit your design aesthetic, without making any changes to the interior?

The space is quite big (around 55 square meters). It is composed of a main room that takes most of the space and a small second room at the back. We have access to a share kitchen as well. We are excited about the location as its easy to access for our clients, close to public transport and is located next to [another Renew Newcastle project] Rollingball which is a leading-edge creative production house.

We are still in the process of getting things organised, but we kept it low key. We have had the carpets cleaned and polished all of the windows. At the moment we have desks, couches and that’s pretty much it… We are getting some of our pictures printed into massive canvases to hang them on the wall. We will also add some cool lighting gear in a near future to make it more trendy.
