Who are you?
Newcastle Writers Festival

What do you do?
The Newcastle Writers Festival is an annual event held in April that shines the spotlight on local and national literary talent. It features 70 free and ticketed sessions and includes readings, book launches, panel discussions and one-one-one conversations. It is held in the Civic precinct.

What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
Renew has become an integral part of the city’s identity and it invites people with creative ideas to breathe life into empty spaces. It also fosters civic pride among residents and that is also one of the aims of the Newcastle Writers Festival.

What are you doing in your space?
Until now, the director and logistics manager of Newcastle Writers Festival have managed the event from their home offices. The Renew space will enable us to work side by side, especially in the hectic period leading up to the finalisation of the program. We will also be able to hold meetings with our wonderful volunteers. Once the program is launched, it will also enable us to connect face-to-face with our audience.

Tell us about the space – what was its previous use? Anything unique about it? Your response to the space?
Newcastle Writers Festival will be sharing office space with the Newcastle Youth Orchestra, which is a fantastic organisation. We are both committed to supporting local talent.
