Having a studio space with Renew last year really helped me piece together the plan for my upcoming book and also kick the illustrations along.
Since leaving the space, I’ve enjoyed some adventures and entered 2017 with new super art making speed. My parents set me up with a bed and studio again, and I’ll just be there, working hard until my Book is published and I’m ready to live abroad again and pick up some new skills.
Working with this crew was so respectful, fun and inspiring. It’s very cool to have professional creatives do more than just tell you that they like your stuff, but also give you space to work and a support-network to engage with. RN gave me a place to get away from my tiny house filled with teenagers and dogs, and that was hugely appreciated.
Who are you?
My name is Jerry Ray and I’m a 19 year old creator based in Newcastle.
What do you do?
I’ve been working as an artist since I was fifteen and have explored a few awesome different art styles since. The largest of these being acting, directing, writing for both stage and short stories, illustration and music. Right now I’m working on self-publishing my first book of whacky fiction.
What are you doing in your new space?
I’ve been working on a collection of illustrations and short fictional stories called “The Lonely Beasts” for the past year and a half. The Renew space I’m sharing is where I plan to finish the last few legs of the project which I’m very excited about! The Lonely Beasts will be published later this year if all goes well. When this book is finished I will continue to use the space for my various other artistic projects including writing and directing plays, music-based projects and art/illustration.
