With a passion for handcrafted leather goods, CCY Studio feels herself lucky to have had an opportunity to show her skills in The Emporium. Having a space motivated Chia-Chi to professionalise her business by giving her a place to sell her work. Her business has grown stronger and also gave Chia-Chi the opportunity to understand her market better.
CCY Studio has relocated to City Arcade, Shop 15, 120 Hunter Street and now shares a space with B3 bookbinding. CCY will continue to provide her beautiful, quality handcrafted leather goods from the new location and looks forward to seeing you in her store soon.
Who are you?
I am Chia-Chi Yu and CCY Studio is the name of my creative leather works/design studio offering a unique range of hand crafted leather products. I have a love for hand crafting different kinds of useful items and a passion for creativity since I was a little girl. I started making leather hand bags after finishing my Diploma of Interior Design at the Commercial Arts Training College in Sydney four years ago. Shortly after completing my studies, my family moved to Stockton. We now enjoy our life in Stockton’s beautiful location where we can walk to the beach and take the ferry across the river and enjoy the restaurants in Newcastle.
What do you do?
CCY studio specialises in creating an assortment of unique and elegant leather hand bags and other leather goods, home wares and accessories. I work exclusively with genuine Australian leather and high quality metal fixtures. I ensure that my products are of high quality and long lasting. All items are individually designed and hand made with care and attention to detail. I use traditional and modern methods of hand creasing, aging, polishing, cutting, hand stitching, waxing and edging leather working processes. All of CCY Studio’s products are made in limited editions thus ensuring that customers are purchasing very unique and not mass produced items.
What inspired you to get involved in Renew Newcastle?
When my friend told me about Renew Newcastle, I was very excited because this project not only benefits the city through renewal but also offers a great opportunity for creative local people. They, like myself, want to be involved in giving and offering unique products for consumers and help the inner city retail business to flourish again.
What are you doing in your new space?
The space will be used in part as retail space as well as to demonstrate the techniques of producing unique custom and hand made leather goods.
Tell us about the space.
The old David Jones building in the Hunter Street Mall is special. I like the building. It is historical and has a unique architectural style. The space that will be assigned to me is very suitable for my working on and creating hand made leather goods and to display my creations for sale. For me it will be an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere and work space.
