The Australian International Animation Festival tours the country each year, and from 21-24 October 2009 will be bringing the best short animations in the world to Newcastle: 110 films from 26 countries to amaze, delight, amuse and confuse you. From the heartwarming to the bizarre this collection covers the lot.

The program includes 3 international programs, a showcase of Australian animation, highlights of SIGGRAPH Asia, an amazing digital program or for the brave, a late-night hour of oddness in Late Night Bizarro and a special Kids program of international animated treats.

The event launch is Weds 21 Oct at the View Factory, and the screening program is showing Thurs, Fri and Sat (22-24 Oct) at the Civic Playhouse Newcastle. See the website for program information, or join the Facebook group for regular updates.

The Australian International Animation Festival is being brought to Newcastle by Specially Trained Monkeys' Jane Shadbolt, who is mad keen on animation and would like to share her passion with the rest of Newcastle.

What are you doing in the shopfront?

At night we are lighting up the mall with projections of the festival trailer and features from the screening program.

Props

The program is curated by Malcolm Turner and sponsored by Screen Australia.

The Newcastle festival is sponsored by University of Newcastle and proudly supported by Newcastle City Council and Renew Newcastle.
