Hat’s off to new location

Jodie Louise Millinery has been returning some of the old world elegance and glamour of the makeup and perfume department in the David Jones building. After three years, her handcrafted millinery business has grown to enable her to move to 374 King Street and become our 37th graduate to take a commercial lease.
Millinery is an historic craft from a time when hats were an every-day accessory. Originally from Melbourne, Jodie saw a niche in the market and began to apply her design skills to hat making. Her move to Newcastle and a space with Renew saw her client base blossom with customers seeking unique headwear for race carnivals, weddings and every-day wear.
Jodie says, her time with Renew was “the best three years, I learnt so much, met and collaborated with many amazing people and will be forever grateful!”
Jodie’s new shop will continue to be a retail store and workshop where each piece is made to order; designed, dyed, blocked, sewn and created with love and attention to detail in-store so visitors are able to observe the process of making a wearable piece of art. Now open seven days from 11-4pm or by appointment.
